Lieutenant Colonel Brendan J. Cullinan 

Commander, 12th Aviation Bn

Lieutenant Colonel Cullinan was commissioned as an Aviation Officer in 1999 following graduation from Tufts University. His first assignment was with 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Division, 2nd Infantry Division, Korea where he served as both a Support and Aero-Scout Platoon Leader.

Lieutenant Colonel Cullinan’s other assignments include the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and 1st Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Carson, CO, US Army Human Resources Command in Alexandria, VA, 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry and Headquarters & Headquarters Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, KY, and Headquarters Department of the Army, G-3/5/7, the Pentagon, Washington, DC. He deployed twice to both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Lieutenant Colonel Cullinan’s military training and education includes the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the OH-58D Aircraft Qualification Course, Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) Course, Fort Bragg, NC, the Aviation Captains Career Course, and the United Kingdom’s Joint Services Command & Staff College, UH-60 A/L and M Aircraft Qualification Courses and was awarded a Masters of Arts in Defense Studies from King’s College – London in 2010.

His awards include the Bronze Star Medal (three oak leaf clusters), Air Medal with V Device, Air Medal (numeral two), Meritorious Service Medal (two oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (two oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (one oak leaf cluster), Senior Aviator Badge, and Army Staff Badge.

He is married to the former Rebecca Scott of Acton, MA. They have four children together, Aidan, Emerson, Aoife and Declan.


CSM Bernard Brooks JR

Command Sergeant Major, 12th Aviation Bn

Command Sergeant Major Bernard Brooks Jr. is a native of Augusta, GA.  He enlisted into the Georgia Army National Guard in October 1993 as a Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember (13B) graduating One Stop Unit Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  In January 1996, he transferred to active duty as an Aircraft Pneudraulics Repairer (68H) completing training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. 

CSM Brooks has served with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Charlie Company and Delta Company, of 1st Battalion (Attack) 3rd Aviation Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM; the 21st Cavalry Brigade (Air Combat) at Fort Hood, Texas; Headquarters and Headquarters Troop and Delta Troop, of 3rd Squadron, 4th  Cavalry Regiment (AIR CAV), at Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii; Alpha Company and Bravo 603rd  Aviation Support Battalion, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM; Delta Company, 3rd Battalion (Attack Reconnaissance) 3rd  Aviation Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia; Columbia Recruiting Battalion, Florence Recruiting Company, Columbia, South Carolina; Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Bravo Company 602nd Aviation Support Battalion, Camp Humphreys, Korea, Bravo Company 404th Aviation Support Battalion, Fort Carson, Colorado and JFHQ-MDW J/G 37 Fort McNair, Washington D.C.   

His duty and leadership positions include Squad Leader, Section Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, Pneudraulics Shop Supervisor, Platoon Sergeant, Recruiter, Production Control NCOIC at the platoon and company level (AVUM & AVIM), company First Sergeant, and J/G 37 SGM.

He is a graduate of the Primary Leadership Development Course, Honor Graduate of Basic Noncommissioned Officers course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers course, the Army First Sergeants Course Class 19-08, United States Sergeant’s Major Academy Course Class 66, Recruiter Course, Total Army Instructors Course, Air Load Planners Course, Master Resilience Trainer course, Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA), and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.  

CSM Brooks’ awards and decorations are the Bronze Star Medal (2nd Award), Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award),  Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Good Conduct Medal (w/Numeral 7), National Defense Service Medal (w/Numeral 2), Iraq Campaign Medal (4 stars), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1star), Korea Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (w/Numeral 5), Overseas Service Ribbon (w/Numeral 3), Recruiter Badge (2nd Gold Star), Driver’s Badge, and the Senior Aircrew Members Badge.

CSM Brooks and Efia have been married for twenty-one years.  They have two sons, Brandon (19) and Byron (12).

12th Aviation Battalion conducts air movement and engineer technical rescue operations for senior leaders of the Army, Department of Defense, and United States Government, while maintaining a continuous alert posture in support of the Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region in order to sustain a rapid response, readiness, and support force capability.
